Two decades is a helluva long time. Most human beings are a quarter of the way through their life span after two decades. Public Image Ltd have lived up to their name and will release an album of "folk music" in April 2012. Their first album in 20 years.
Although Lydon put the band back together in 2009 this record has been a long time coming. Lydon will channel his Irish roots through the album which is supposedly comprised of "Folk". Apparently the old Irish folkies have already been up in arms about Lydon's " mockery of tradition". But as explained by Lydon to Gibson magazine " ...for God's sake, that's been the story of my life. It's not mockery; it's called advancement. We can't all be stuck in 17th-century ditties."
Lydon goes on to describe what the album will have in store for punters, ""It's very different, it comes from the heart and the soul. Whether that be electric, acoustic, digital or analog, that's still heart and soul. It's not pop fodder and finely crafted pieces of fluff." Well that is a relief, nobody wants to hear finely crafted pieces of fluff from P.i.L.
Ahead of the full album release fans will be have the opportunity to sample with the release of a four song E.P "One Drop". The E.P will be available on International Record Store Day April 21st 2012.
If you think this might be about the cash, Lydon has set everyone straight by letting them know that in order for the album to exist P.i.L needed to tour solidly for two years in order to be able to afford to do it.
Here is "One Drop".
