Emerging out of the so-called cultural “wastelands” of Melbourne’s southern suburbs back in March 2011, Carnival of Suburbia rose like a flower in the desert to firmly establish itself as an iconic ten day annual event celebrating Melbourne’s suburban soul and culture.
The festival has built on the success of Oakleigh’s Caravan Music Club which has gone from strength to strength by showcasing quality national and international talent to local audiences. The expanded festival program for 2012 has resulted in a second venue being added, the Oakleigh Bowling Club, a short stroll down from the Caravan Club.
Kicking off the event in 2012 will be John Von Goes with his insallment of "JVG's Stopping All Stations Except East Richmond" followed by shows with celebrated locals Wagons , The Audreys and The Celibate Rifles.
Carnival Of Suburbia will also feature internation talent including New York folk scene hero Judy Collins and founding member of both The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers , Chris Hillman, performing alongside renowned Californian banjo player/ guitarist Herb Pedersen. Also appearing is acclaimed US folk-poet songwriter Pieta Brown accompanied by The Sawdust Boys with very special guest Lucie Thorne.
