63 year old Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with lymphoma, an infection of the cells which form part of the human immune system.
Iommi is being treated for the illness and in a statement made by other Black Sabbath members it appears that they have a positive outlook. “Iommi is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan. The Iron Man of rock and roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery.” and "This comes as Black Sabbath--Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi(guitar),Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums)—are writing and recording their first album in 33 years in Los Angeles (still set for release this fall) with producer Rick Rubin. They will now go to the UK to continue to work with Tony. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
Regardless as to what impact Iommi's illness will have on Black Sabbath in 2012, everyone should be wishing him well and considering his health as top priorty over Black Sabbath plans.
