Music service Concert Live have just announced the 13th of February release date for Alice Coopers " No More Mr Nice Guy" a live CD that will be recorded on the last leg of Cooper's European Tour and shipped to fans that have pre-ordered.
Gotta love legalised bootlegging. Obviously record labels have agreed this is another way they can generate revenue through technology in the digital age and still move physical units.
The going rate isn't cheap. Alice Coopers Live CD will be priced at 20 GBP, which translates to around $30.00 AUD , 24 Euro or $31.00 U.S. When you think about the cost to produce it makes you wonder what sort of cut the labels are getting combined with live performance royalites, publishing etc.
Anyhoo, it's a great idea for fans of music that don't mind spending extra to listen to something they were not able to hear due to not being able to attend the performance. The website spin is hilarious, sounds like a Mattel advertisement on early morning cartoon TV;
"Don’t miss your chance to pre-order the ultimate piece of memorabilia from the grand-daddy of ‘shock rock.’ This instant CD will be available to pick up STRAIGHT after the shows and if you’re unfortunate enough not to be there, you can still order this CD be delivered straight to your home. What better way is there to get in the mood for halloween then to celebrate with Alice Cooper and soak up the electric atmosphere of his gigs with this live recording."
Kids will go crazy, but just how crazy will depend on their access to a disposable income and the fast becoming extinct CD player. Will Concert Live ever release the recordings for pay per download?
