Billie Joe Spears passed away on December 14th at her home in Vidor Texas. The songstress had 5 Top ten hits between 1968 and 1974. Her biggest success as a performer was with "Blanket on the Ground," which hit No. 1 in 1975.
Billie Jo made her chart debut in 1968 with the song "He's Got More Love in His Little Finger." She went on to score several hits in the 1970s, with her last Top 10 coming in 1977 with "If You Want Me."
By the 1980s, her success in the United States began to slow down but she maintained a strong presence in the United Kingdom, where she recorded albums and toured heavily.
Having recovered from triple by-pass surgery in 1993 she continued to tour and has lived in Vidor Texas for the last 10 years. She made her final visit to the UK earlier this year, touring as before with the veteran Irish country singer Philomena Begley.
