Today a very proud Louise Asher, Minister for Tourism and Major Events joined with Dave Stewart to announce that Ghost The Musical will open in Melbourne at Her Majesty's Theatre in Ausgust 2013.
Ms Asher described the event as the 3rd stop of a world tour with NY being the 2nd stop and London having been the first. A current smash-hit in Londons West End Ghost The Musical will open on Broadway in April 2012. The Australian production is the 2nd to be announced with Lousie Withers (co-producer) speculating the next stop after Australia may be the rest of South East Asia.
Bruce Joel Rubin (Ghost, Jacobs Ladder, The Time Travellers Wife) has adapted his Award winning screenplay for "Ghost" the movie to be performed on stage as a musical. Renowned and Award winning creatives from all fields will contribute to every detail of the production which has been sighted by The Evening Standard as;
" Gasp-inducing ingenuity and technical wizardry make Ghost The Musical an unearthly hit" Ground breaking technology and spectacualr illusions are provided by Paul Kieve who was also responsible for the "magic" of the film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Ghost The Musical also features a brand new original score by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard. The songwriting duo spent five years working on the score before opening in Manchester to standing ovations every night. In a treat for media today Stewart performed with Amy Keys "Here Comes The Rain" accoustically in order to demonstrate the drama that can be built with a live performance. Following on Stewart and Keys performed an orginal song from the score "With You" which was written about the realisation that someone is gone forever, but still around in what they have left behind.
If the performances witnessed today are but a tiny sneak peak of what Ghost The Musical has to offer, Melbourne should be very, very excited.
I am certainly not in the habit of heaping praise or jumping on bandwagons, however Ghost The Musical is shaping up to be an absolute must see for anyone that wants to be spellbound by the magic it will bring to Her Majesty's Theatre in 2013. As Dave Stewart quipped earlier today "The good thing about musicals is that you can't download a seat."
And it's only 623 sleeps away.
