Michael Jackson's personal physician, Dr Conrad Murray, has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the pop star’s death and will face up to four years in prison.
The sentence against Murray on Monday determined the doctor was incompetent in managing the anaesthetic propofol without adequate safeguards and that he could lose his medical license. The prosecutors said Jackson’s physician violated at least 17 separate standards of care, which could have only resulted in death.
As fans of Michael held signs of Murray’s guilty judgement, they cheered from the crowd outside the court and sang the hits of their hero.
"Michael was looking over us," said Michael’s mother, Katherine Jackson on her way out of the courthouse. "I feel better now".
The King of Pop was found dead in his mansion on June 25th, 2009, three weeks before he was scheduled to begin a tour expected to return the pop star to the limelight. Jackson’s autopsy concluded that he was killed by an overdose of sedatives and propofol.
Jackson’s physician, Dr Conrad Murray will be sentenced on November 29.
