The Mayor of the City Of Milwaukee has declared today to be Bon Iver Day.
JSOnline broke the news that Mayor Tom Barrett has proclaimed Friday July 22 to be Bon Iver Day in honour of sensitive songwriter Justin Vernon’s contributions to the city and the state of Wisconsin.
Pitchfork dug up the official proclamation for the mayor, which lists today because it’s the day Vernon and Bon Iver kick off their international tour at the Riverside Theatre in Milwaukee.
The proclamation reads, in part, “Bon Iver's music embraces Justin Vernon's Wisconsin heritage, as he has become an international ambassador for both Milwaukee and Wisconsin, while they travel across the world playing music and interact with national media”.
It cited the number two debut of June’s self-titled album and Vernon’s media appearances with “The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, SPIN Magazine, "Late Night with David Letterman", "The Colbert Report" and "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” as proof of significance.
Barrett concludes, “The City of Milwaukee joins supporting fans to enjoy the entertaining performance of Bon Iver and commends the band for their musical accomplishments”.
Congratulations, Vernon. Does this means he get the keys to the brewhouse as well?
