Nine Inch Nails’ ringleader Trent Reznor has told fans not to buy the re-release of Pretty Hate Machine.
No fan of record labels, Reznor tweeted that his fans should ignore the Universal re-release of his 1989 debut.
He tweeted, “NIN fans, don't waste your money on this version of PHM that was just released” and linked a catalogue entry for the release, which specifies that the re-release is not remastered and is “very similar to the TVT version”.
He followed this up with “... a record label bullshit move repackaging the old version. Ignore please.”
Reznor had feuded with original label TVT (who had ordered him to make a more commercially viable follow-up), and the album was out of print from 1997 to 2005.
Rykodisc re-released it in 2005, and a remastered version came out last year.
