Soul-funk legend Sly Stone is back after almost 30 years with Ray Manzarek of the Doors, Bootsy Collins, and guitar legend Jeff Beck.
Sly also brings back the Family Stone, although it’s a little sketchy who that will be since the band changed line-up every album for their last four from 1975 and 1982.
'Ain't But the One Way' from 1982 was the last official album from Stone, but Exclaim! in Canada says Stone is coming back, with an August album called I’m Back: Family And Friends.
There’s not so much new music on the album, as the Hall Of Famer works on a few classics with some high-profile buddies.
Ray Manzarek from the Doors chips in on ‘Dance To The Music’, Ann Wilson from Heart on ‘Everyday People’, Carmine Appice and Ernie Watts on ‘Stand!’, Johnny Winter on ‘Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)’, Jeff Beck on ‘(I Want To Take You) Higher’ and funk icon Bootsy Collins on ‘Hot Fun In The Summertime’.
I’m Back: Family And Friends (not to be confused with his 1976 album Heard Ya Missed Me, Well I'm Back) will be released on August 16 on Cleopatra Records.
