Jackass star Ryan Dunn died by “blunt and thermal trauma” according to the Chester County Coroner’s Office.
Dunn and Zachary Hartwell (who worked as a production assistant on Jackass Number Two) died instantly when Dunn’s 2007 Porsche flew off a highway and into a patch of trees about 50 kilometres outside Philadelphia.
Just hours before, Dunn had tweeted a picture of himself drinking with friends.
Police say the car was travelling at “a high speed”.
Just hours after Dunn’s death, movie critic Roger Ebert tweeted an outrageous and insensitive statement saying, “friends, don't let Jackasses drink and drive”. Facebook suspended his account after the comment. It was later reinstated.
Today, the critic explained his comments in his column saying that his thoughts were impossible to clarify when limited to Twitter’s 140 characters”. He then offered his sympathy to the family and friends of Dunn and Hartwell and wrote “I also regret that my tweet about the event was considered cruel.”
