The majority of the album was originally recorded in 1984 for her then TV show but never released. The nine original tracks were remastered by Day's son, Terry Melcher (the Byrds, the Beach Boys), prior to his death in 2004.
Among the tracks on the album are Day's versions of Joe Cocker's You Are So Beautiful and the Beach Boys' Disney Girls. Doris said in a statement "I had to sing some modern songs because I had already done all the old ones."
Also included are songs by John Sebastian (Daydream), Ray Henderson and Joe Brown (Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries), Betty Comden, Adolph Green & Leonard Bernstein (Ohio) and three originals by Melcher and the Beach Boys' Bruce Johnston.
Over the course of her career, Day recorded more than 600 songs, starred in 39 films and had TV shows in the 70's and 80's. Her hits include Que Sera Sera (Whatever Will Be Will Be) (1956/#2), Everybody Loves a Lover, Secret Love, It's Magic, Sentimental Journey and Teacher's Pet. She retired over thirty years ago, except for rare forays into the studio, to concentrate on her Doris Day Animal Foundation.
