Guitarist Jeff Hanneman’s flesh-eating infection continues to keep metal gods Slayer from recording.
Singer and bassist Tom Araya spoke to The Quietus about the disturbing case of necrotising fasciitis that has kept guitarist Jeff Hanneman off stage and in rehabilitation.
Hanneman has spent the last six months recovering from the flesh-eating infection, caused by a spider bite.
He recently joined the band for a couple of songs during the Big Four Of Thrash shows with Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth, but the rehab process will take more time and prevent Slayer from recording any time soon.
Araya said, "There's no way we'd go into a studio without him. We require his musical skills, his writing skills. He's an integral part of the band. So we're going to hold off until he's at 100 percent and can join that process and be part of it."
Araya reminded fans of the severity of the condition, saying, “He's had skin grafts, and he's got to rehabilitate his arm and get it back in shape again. It's going to require a lot of time”.
Slayer have been honouring their touring commitments with fill-in guitarists Gary Holt of Exodus and Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse.
