Former Talking Heads singer David Byrne was influenced by Chicago singer/songwriter Sufjan Stevens when it came time to bringing dancers into his recent live shows.
“It’d be nice to do something unexpected that also makes it a little more of a show. I can do that one way through dancers and movement,” he said in an interview with The Guardian.
“I saw a Sufjan Stevens show where he had a few girls come out with hula-hoops for a minute. It was great, it was a great show anyway, but just that little element and I thought “That really didn’t require a lot of training, but it really added this other element and another kind of energy to the whole thing, and I thought, maybe I can take that further.”
Byrne is talking about his tour that travelled the world in support of his album ‘Everything That Happens Will Happen Today’, which was a collaborative album with his long-time musical partner, producer Brian Eno.
The tour was chronicled in the film ‘Ride, Rise, Roar’, which was released in 2010.
