Sufjan Stevens has contributed songs to ‘Make’, a documentary that follows the lives of four self-taught artists.
The film focuses on Prophet Royal Robertson, Hawkins Bolden, Judith Scott and Ike Morgan. “Their interwoven stories bring together individuals whose worlds are as unique as their creations and explore why they are each consumed by their obsessive art making,” the film’s official site explains.
Steven’s album ‘The Age Of Adz’ was loosely based on the life of Prophet Royal Robertson and features one of his works on his album cover.
In a statement, Stevens described the film as “a beautiful and insightful look at the sublime task of making art when nothing else will do.”
The film will be released on June 21 through Stevens’ label Asthmatic Kitty.
