The RAW Gallery in Melbourne will host an exhibition of rare Rolling Stones photos.
‘Rendition – A History of the Rolling Stones’ will be open to the public from July 8 to August 7.
The exhibition will include photos for sale from the Stones first professional shoot by Terry O’Neill from 1963. The photos were never published because O’Neill’s editor considered the band “too ugly”. They were recently discovered from archives.
It will also feature portraits of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian Jones taken by New York photographer Art Kane, live shots by Gered Mankowitz from their first US tour, Michael Cooper’s 1967 cover art from ‘Satanic Majesties’, black and white portraits by Neal Preston and recent tour photographs by Tony Mott.
Many of the photos will be seen in public for the first time anywhere in the world at the RAW Gallery in Melbourne. A highlight is expected to be the work of Michael Joseph taken for the ‘Beggars Banquet’ album.
The RAW Gallery is at 11 Yarra Place in South Melbourne.
