Scottish post-rockers Mogwai lead the charge on soundtracks to the new 'Miami Vice' movie and a Zidane doco.
While often described as cinematic in musical scope, this turbulent, mostly-instrumental band has taken it one step further and contributed a couple of tracks to the soundtrack for ironic movie rehash 'Miama Vice'.Pitchfork reports that alongside these indie heroes, the soundtrack will also include other soundscape stalwarts Moby, Nina Simone, and Goldfrapp, as well as India.Arie and a song by Emilio Estefan, which would round out the nostalgia quite nicely.
And while they're at it, Mogwai have also recorded the soundtrack to a documentary on the now-retired French soccer legend and erstwhile headbutt-fanatic Zinedine Zidane. Although he ended up retiring in ignominy after a World Cup Final attempt to shatter Italian Marco Materazzi's sternum with his forbidding forehead, Zidane is renowned as a French soccer legend. The doco is titled 'Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait' and will debut at the Edinburgh Film festival this August.
Mogwai plan to release a sampler of the soundtrack digitally and on 10-inch record in late-August, with the official soundtrack appearing in October.
