After last year's tongue-in-cheek announcement from their label, The Avalanches have confirmed new material.
It has been a mind-boggling seven years since Melbourne's party-pastiche artists The Avalanches released their breakthrough debut 'Since I Left You'. Aside from the odd remix of uber-hip artists like Belle & Sebastian, Franz Ferdinand and Wolfmother, and many a DJ slot for members, continued talk of a follow-up album has become apocryphal.Mid-2006, their label Modular sent out a press release about their new material, joking that it sounded "rushed". Now the collective themselves have posted an extensive and garbled post on their message board and have uploaded new work on their temporary dot com (including, Pitchfork reports, a remix of a Carl Craig remix of one their 'A Different Feeling' song. Meta!).
The promising post reads in part: "It's a really thrilling time for us right now as this record comes together, it's so f**kin party you will die, much more hip hop than you might expect, and while there is still no accurate estimated time of arrival, we're sure you're gonna love it when it arrives."
Apparently they're trimming down "40 odd" songs, so we can expect another cut n' paste opus.
