Former Noiseworks and INXS singer Jon Stevens has produced a video to explain the story of the day he nearly died. It was the day his heart gave out.
I wanted to share this with the Undercover readers because the same thing happened to me four weeks ago… a heart attack.
Jon, like myself, was lucky. We got to a hospital in time. Many don’t make it. Many don’t realise what is happening. But the scary thing is that for 40 plus guys, it happens a lot, a lot more than you would even consider.
“One day I got a tap on the shoulder and that was the day I nearly died,” Jon Stevens says in this video. “When I say I nearly died, according to the doctors, I should have been dead. It was a series of fortunate accidents that lead me to the doctors in the first place. What nearly finished me off was my heart”.
Often it is hereditary. It was for me, it was for Jon. “My dad was a Scot and his heart gave out when I was 15-years old,” Jon says. “All my friends have said “its your lifestyle. Sex, drugs and rock and roll. I wasn’t that actually got me in this position in the first place. It was my bonny, Scottish ticker.
It could be very easy for anyone to become a statistic. If Jon didn’t go to the hospital when he did, he would not have lived past the weekend. “I would have been one of those statistics who just dropped dead and people who say “how did that happen, he looked so normal, he seemed so fit and healthy. That was me. I was that guy”.
I was that guy too!
Jon Stevens produced the program below to “get the knowledge out there and share what has happened to me so that whoever is watching this will get off the couch and goes and gets a checkup, because you never know”.
Watch it!
