The Church Of England has followed the lead of churches across the United States, with a plan to integrate U2 songs into one of its services.
The 'U2-charist' is set to happen in May in the town of Lincoln. Bishop of Grantham Timothy Ellis justified the decision with, "Rock music can be a vehicle of immense spirituality."The move follows a trend developing across the United States, where U2's music has been used in Episcopal Eucharist services to raise awareness of the UN's Millennium Development Goals, a cause famously supported by Bono.
The Church of England service will have a similar focus, with churchgoers re-contextualising such seemingly secular hits as 'Beautiful Day' and '(Pride) In The Name Of Love'.
The service at Lincoln will feature a live band and is expected to be attended by over 500 people.
