Melbourne’s RAW Gallery is exhibiting classic photos of alternative music icons.
The exhibition, titled ‘Generation X: The Soundtrack For Generation Whatever’, showcases landmark photos of the icons of grunge, hip-hop, rock, punk and alternative music.
Centred around the music of the late-‘80s and ‘90s, the exhibit covers all corners, from the photo of Jeff Buckley that went on to become the cover of his Grace album to a candid snap of a young Foo Fighters performing in a UK share house to early Silverchair shots.
Other artists to appear in studio set-ups, captured during live performances or in impromptu moments include Green Day, Iggy Pop, Bjork, Thom Yorke of Radiohead, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eddie Vedder, The Strokes, Oasis, Beastie Boys, The Prodigy, Trent Reznor, local heroes Something For Kate, Silverchair, Beasts Of Bourbon, Adalita of Magic Dirt, and scores more.
The exhibition is running from April 15 to May 15 at The RAW Gallery, 11 Yarra Place South Melbourne.
Photos can be purchased at the gallery and inquiries can be made online at www.therawgallery.com.
