A portrait of The Drones frontman Gareth Liddiard by artist Jason Benjamin is one of the finalists for the 2011 Archibald Prize.
Benjamin has called his work “It’s Not All Henry bloody Lawson’.
The Archibald Prize is one of the oldest art prizes in Australia. This year is the 90th year of the prestigious art award.
The Archibald Prize was designed to capture and preserve the “portraiture” of great Australians so congrats to Gareth for being considered worthy.
Last year, Sam Leach’s portrait of comedian Tim Minchin won first prize.
The winner of the Archibald Prize will receive $50,000.
Liddard has been the frontman for The Drones since the band formed in Perth in 2000.
In October 2010, Liddard also released his solo album ‘Strange Tourist’.
