Mad Men fans will have to wait until 2012 for the 5th season of the hit TV drama.
The show’s creator Matthew Weiner is in dispute with AMC over budget and duration cuts to the show.
AMC want to shorten the show by two minutes per episode to add more time for advertisements as well as cut the budget for the cast. To meet the cast budget cut, two stars would have to be sacrificed.
Weiner claims those changes could seriously change the show and is refusing to sign for a 5th season despite the network offering him $30 million for three more years. That would make him the highest paid producer on cable television.
With a new season of television beginning this week in America, even if Weiner decided to resign with the network this week, the show would not be able to recommence until early next year.
Mad Men is based on the advertising industry in the 60s and is set on Madison Avenue New York. Mad Men was the term given to Madison Advertising Men at the time.
The show stars Jon Hamm as Don Draper, Elisabeth Moss as Peggy Olson, Vincent Kartheiser as Pete Campbell, January Jones as Betty Francis and Christina Hendricks as Joan Harris.
In 2010, Mattel released a limited edition series of Barbie Dolls based on the characters.
