Jimmy Fallon has pranked Stephen Colbert into singing Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ with his houseband The Roots for charity.
This ludicrous charity arms race began when Late Night host Jimmy Fallon and political satirist Stephen Colbert announced that they would be BFFs (for six months).
Colbert raised $26,000 for educational charity Donor’s Choose by auctioning a portrait of himself, which was worked on by international artists Shepard Fairey and Andres Serrano.
Then he announced that his new BFF (for six months) Fallon would match that donation with $26,000 of his own.
Of course, Fallon had no idea about his supposedly generous offer, and got Colbert on his show to explain. Once he and Colbert assessed their BFFs (for six months) status, Fallon did a set-up of his own.
Fallon said that if his viewers donate the $26,000 to Donor’s Choose, Stephen Colbert would appear on his show and perform “one of the most important songs of our time” – Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ – with his houseband The Roots this Friday.
The Fallon Colbert Project Donor’s Choose page already has over $15,000 pledged, with three days still to go.
