Next year we could be hearing “And the Grammy goes to … Prince William and Kate Middleton”. The royal wedding will be released as an album via iTunes and on CD, vinyl and cassette.
Winning a Grammy for the Wedding Album would not be all that unusual. Hilary Clinton has one. Bill Clinton has two. Jimmy Carter has one. Barack Obama has two.
The Clinton, Carter and Obama all won Grammy Awards in the Best Spoken Word Album category.
Hilary won in 1997 for her audiobook ‘It Takes a Village: And Other Lessons Children Teach Us”.
Bill won in 2004 for his narration of ‘Wolf Track’. He won again in 2005 for his autobiography audiobook ‘My Life’.
Jimmy Carter grabbed his Grammy in 2007. It was for ‘Our Endangered Value: America’s Moral Crisis’.
Barack Obama scored his first Grammy in 2006 for ‘Dreams From My Father’ and in 2008 for ‘Audacity of Hope’.
William’s parents Prince Charles and Lady Diana released their wedding as an album in 1981. Universal Music owned Decca Records, the company that released the Charles and Di album, will release the William and Kate album.
Universal has brought in Grammy nominate producer Anna Barry to produce the William and Kate event.
iTunes will release the album within hours of the wedding. The physical album will be released on May 5.
The Grammy Awards will be held in late January 2012.
