The autotuned viral shocker single ‘Friday’ could soon earn Rebecca Black a million bucks.
Forbes magazine has pulled out the calculator to try to discern exactly how much Rebecca Black may be cashing in on her newfound infamy.
Adding up cash from YouTube views and actual copies of the song sold, Forbes are estimating that she might be heading toward the magic million-dollar mark.
The song actually cost Black’s mother $2000 — that's what Ark Music Factory charges to put together one of these packages.
Now, with the split of YouTube revenues for the over-30 million views, she’s certainly banked over $20,000 just on views alone.
But the big money is in actual sales, and the song is currently at number 45 on the iTunes singles chart.
Although Forbes admits the initial estimates of two million sales is an overshoot, it’s still in the “few hundred thousand” already and at 70 cents a pop for the artist, her numbers are racking up.
Then, Forbes notes, that the song is also available from many other web outlets, like Ark Music’s own site, Amazon and CDBaby.com.
Add to this the acoustic version Black has planned to prove that she can actually sing, and the song is already a goldmine.
Thankfully, The Daily Beast reports that Black has said she will donate a portion of her proceeds to “Japan relief organizations and school arts programs”.
