Gorillaz and Blur mastermind Damon Albarn is writing a new musical, which is set to debut in Manchester this [northern] summer.
According to a report by the BBC, the subject of Albarn’s new work will be Doctor Dee, alchemist, astrologer and medical and scientific advisor to Queen Elizabeth I.
The show will premiere at the Manchester International Festival in July before heading to the London Coliseum Theatre, home of the English National Opera.
It will be the second musical the singer has written. His first was a Chinese opera called ‘Monkey: A Journey To The West‘. It also debuted at the inaugural Manchester International Festival, which was held in 2007.
