Dandenong’s Drum Theatre will play host to ‘Funk It Up About Nothin’, an ad-RAP-tation of Shakespeare.
The Dandenong shows will be the only shows in Victoria for the Chicago production.
‘Funk It Up About Nothin’ was created and directed by GQ and JQ, the Q Brothers. It is based on Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’
‘Funk It Up About Nothin’ has played at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and is heading to the Drum Theatre in Dandenong for a week’s residency from March 29.
The show features a live DJ who morphs Shakespeare’s romantic comedy into a hip-hop celebration of language, love and laughter.
The story is about International hip-hop superstar MC Don Pedro and his crew, who have emerged victorious from their long tour with a record number of rap battles. They’re chilling out at the mansion of the mad rich Leonato when MC Claudio and Leonato’s daughter Hero lay eyes on each other. Of course, it’s love at first sight, but Don John schemes to funk it all up…
to the backbeat of a DJ spinning some tub-thumpin’ hip-hoppin’ beats!
The Q Brothers started out with the Off Broadway Smash ‘The Bomb-itty of Errors’ which they adapted from the Shakespeare work ‘The Comedy of Errors’.
‘Funk It Up About Nothin’ will be at The Drum Theatre, Dandenong from March 29 to April 2.
