The Christchurch earthquake that hit 6.3 on the richter scale yesterday has disrupted tours heading through New Zealand.
Queens of the Stoneage were forced to postpone their Wellington show by one day, due to being stranded at Auckland airport, their Christchurch show was cancelled. All other shows will go ahead as planned.
Amanda Palmer has also cancelled her Christchurch performance, narrowly avoiding being in the city explaining her luck in her blog:
“If we’d taken off an hour earlier we would have flown into this mess, and who knows what would have happened. I don’t know who’s been organizing my touring on a cosmic level, but they’re doing a seriously a-plus fucking job. We’ve managed to avoid the volcanic ashcloud, the floods in Brisbane and now a massive earthquake.”
The closest artists to the quake were The Melvins and High On Fire who were touring New Zealand together. They were at Christchurch Airport when the earthquake struck, leaving them stranded in the airport overnight causing them to miss their final New Zealand date last night in Wellington.
