Sydney cult church Hillsong has cracked the American chart this week with their Hillsong United band.
The ‘Aftermath’ album is looking like landing a top 30 position on the Billboard chart with expected sales of around 12,000 units.
The group features Hillsong preachers Joel Houston, Jad Gillies and JD and an evolving collaboration of preachers and musicians.
"In 2011 we are pushing the boundaries and stretching ourselves; musically, lyrically and believing that God is going to do things He has never done before," Joel Houston said in a statement at the church’s official website.
Houston suggests they Hillsong United sound came directly from above. "The message of Jesus Christ is eternal, yet He continues to reveal Himself in new ways... giving us what we need to be followers and disciples of Christ for this time in history," he said.
Hillsong United describes its sound as “Contemporary Christian”.
The album also debuted at number 4 in Australia earlier this week.
