Garish glam photographer David LaChapelle claims Rihanna’s ‘S&M’ video ripped-off his work.
The controversial clip has encountered quite a bit of trouble since its release, but now it’s subject to a copyright claim.
David LaChapelle, renowned for his heavily staged, over-the-top portraits of the super famous, claims that the clip overly emulated the “composition, total concept, feel, tone, mood, theme, colors, props, settings, decors, wardrobe and lighting” of his work.
It’s not hard to see the similarity in tone and colours, but the specific eight pictures he uses as evidence are very closely mirrored in the clip. See comparisons here.
He is suing for unspecified damages. Rihanna’s people are yet to respond.
