Gary Moore has died at the age of 58 while on holiday in Estepona, Spain.
A statement on his official website reads: “It is with deep sorrow and regret, that we have to announce that Gary Moore passed away while on holiday in Spain last night. Our thoughts are with his children, family and friends at this sad time.”
The cause of death is unclear at the moment.
Moore kicked off his musical career in 1969 when he moved from Belfast to Dublin to join the Irish psychedelic blues band Skid Row (not to be confused with the Sebastian Bach-led glam metal band of the early 90s).
Shortly after his tenure in that band he released his first solo album, ‘Grinding Stone‘ in 1973. This kicked off a hefty solo career that saw him release an impressive twenty solo albums and six live albums.
Also in 1973, Moore began his first stint in the Irish hard rock band Thin Lizzy, replacing guitarist Eric Bell who had left the band due to increasing ill health. There he recorded two albums as a full member and appeared on the song ‘Still In Love With You‘ from their 1974 album ‘Night Life’.
His last album was ‘Bad For You Baby‘ in 2008.
