Stevie Wonder has handed over a giant novelty cheque to Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Flea for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music.
Flea started the Conservatory in Los Angeles in 2001.
Stevie Wonder was at the school this week to hand over a giant novelty cheque to the tune of $10,000.
Flea posted a snap of Stevie with the cheque at the school on his Twitter account today.
“Music has been my life for as long as I can remember,” Flea said in a posting at the Red Hot Chili Peppers site. “When I was in high school, I was in the orchestra, marching band and musical production band. Anything to keep myself involved. A few years back, I had the opportunity to visit my old high school and noticed how many of the music programs were cut from when I was there. There were barely any instruments left and the music room was essentially bare. I quickly realized that there was something I could do to help out and that's when I started the Silverlake Conservatory of Music (www.silverlakeconservatory.org). The mission of the organization is to facilitate basic music education for the youth of the community but all are welcome and encouraged to participate”.
The school grants scholarships for children aged 7-17 from low-income families from the area.
Flea has created a Crowdrise account for people to contribute to the school.
And what’s this we hear about a Red Hot Chili Peppers tour in Australia in the second half of this year? Red Hot Chili Peppers will perform at Summer Sonic in Tokyo and Osaka in August and at Rock In Rio in September.
