Former Sherbet singer Daryl Braithwaite has posted a message at his website about the passing of his friend and former bandmate Harvey James who lost his battle with lung cancer on the weekend.
Daryl said, “Rest in peace Harvey James, you will be sadly missed by everyone that saw you play and knew you. My condolences to your family and friends.”
Harvey died on Saturday evening after a six-month battle with lung cancer. Everyone had hoped that he would have been well enough to perform at his own benefit gig in Sydney in February when Sherbet had planned to reform one last time for Harvey.
Harvey joined Sherbet in 1975, replacing founding guitarist Clive Shakespeare. His first album with Sherbet, ‘Howzat’, turned out to be their biggest.
Harvey previously played with Mississippi and Ariel before becoming a “popstar” in Sherbet.
He died on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at around 8.15pm. He was 58-years old.
