Sherbet has now been officially announced to reunite to benefit their former member Harvey James, who is battling lung cancer.
As mentioned in Undercover a few weeks ago, Daryl Braithwaite will reunite with keyboard player Garth Porter, bass player Tony Mitchell and drummer Alan Sandow for the one-off performance in Sydney in February. Harvey is also expected to perform with Sherbet at the show.
This is the same line-up that recorded Sherbet’s classic ‘Howzat’.
“I look forward to playing with some great people again and hope that the crowd takes it in the spirit it is intended – LOUD rock and roll that make the hairs on their neck stand out,” Harvey said in a statement.
Also joining Sherbet will be Swanee, Richard Clapton, Renee Geyer, Dragon, Ian Moss, Kevin Borich and Lindsay Wells of Healing Force as well as Harvey’s two sons Gabriel and Joshua.
The show, dubbed ‘Gimme That Guitar’, will take place at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville, Sydney on February 17.
Proceeds will go towards Harvey’s medical bills plus $10 from every ticket sold will go to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne where Harvey is being treated.
“My music found me; it found me when I was sixteen and has stayed with me ever since,” Harvey says. “It looked after me when I was down to my last dollar and desperate, it gave me joy at the strangest of times, and took me down a few roads I shouldn't have gone down, but I suppose that's what's called experience.
“I am still here, and know that I will not be forgotten after I go, my music will make sure of that, even after I'm gone!”
Tickets are available for $65 at gimmethatguitar.com or factorytheatre.com.au
Daryl Braithwaite will also be performing his solo show at The Sheaf at Double Day in Sydney on January 26.
