Alexander Ebert, the voice of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is casting aside his cumbersome band and releasing a solo album.
The eponymous album was recorded in Ebert’s bedroom with every sound on the record performed and arranged by him. He played a Lowery organ, a clarinet, a violin and various bits and bobs to beef it up.
“I wanted to be able to build an album basically with my hands, like building a house by myself,” Ebert said. “To me, it’s a very humble album with sky’s-the-limit sort of qualities, and so I didn’t really shy away from doing whatever I felt like doing.”
The album will be in Australian stores from February 25, 2011 via Community Music/Inertia and March 1 for the rest of the world.
