Big Day Out Finalises Local Produce Line-ups

Thu, 18 Jan 2007 05:56:16 +1100

The Big Day Out has confirmed the line-ups for the Local Produce stages after the announcement of the Triple J Unearthed competition winners.

Local Produce highlights some of the most exciting up-and-coming talent in the respective host cities. The Unearthed winners will be given the opportunity to play an early set on the Stage. They will inevitably play to a smallish crowd, though having '2007 Big Day Out' on your band CV is a decent trade-off.

Consider Melbourne group Oh Mercy, fresh out of school and playing together for under a year, and soon-to-be among the Big Day Out alumni. Rootsy three-piece Hip Pocket will open proceedings at the Gold Coast, whilst the cheekily named Richard In Your Mind bring their sweeping psychedelia to Sydney.

Adelaide will receive a dose of indie pop courtesy of Antony Of The Future, whilst WAMI-winners Institut Polaire will play to their home town of Perth.

The winners join a raft of local talent, including Melbourne-based Shooting At Unarmed Men (featuring Jon Chapple, of defunct Welsh band mclusky) in Melbourne, dreamy Sydney quirk-popsters Dappled Cities Fly, and the dusty art-rock of Perth music school luminaries Schvendes.
