Legendary bassist and new Stooge Mike Watt prepares his third opera.
Former bassist for cult punk outfits fIREHOSE and the Minutemen, and new bassist for the reunited Stooges, Mike Watt, has confirmed reports of his new opera Hyphenated-Man.
Clash Music reports that Watt is going for a more radical, non-linear approach to the thirty-song opera.
He wrote, “This third opera is quite different in that it has no standard narrative (libretto!) meaning no regular beginning-middle-end and is as it were "simultaneous" in the way a mirror from just inside my head - right in this middle-age moment of mine - was then shattered into thirty pieces and then each piece stuffed in the head to show a piece of my state of mind (or out-of-mind) as of now.”
An album of Hyphenated-Man has already been released in Japan and will be released everywhere else on March 1 through his new label ClenchedWrench.
He has already performed the opera in Japan in 2010, and has booked a gruelling set of over 50 dates in March and April across the US.
