Conor Oberst says the next Bright Eyes album will rock more than ever before.
Oberst spoke to Billboard about the forthcoming new Bright Eyes album, dubbed The People’s Key.
Renowned for playing it pretty softly-softly, Oberst said that they are over their roots Americana “whatever that sound is”.
He dismissed claims that Bright Eyes were even country-tinged and said that the sound has “worn a little thin”.
“So we very much wanted it to be rocking and, for lack of a better term, contemporary, or modern," he said.
In that sense, they’re avoiding acoustic instruments on their forthcoming tours of the US, Europe and Australia in 2011.
He said, "There's going to be two pretty deep keyboard rigs. We still want to play a lot of old songs, but we're going to rely more on nice, super hi-fi keyboard samples instead of hauling a strong quartet around or something like that. It should be good."
The People’s Key is slated for release on February 15 next year.
