X-Factor winner Altiyan Childs says he felt fated to win with the final song ‘Somewhere In The World’.
Altiyan visited Undercover for an interview yesterday to talk about his win and his budding career. He also admitted that he feels the winner’s single was pretty much written for him.
Altiyan says he truly feels ‘Somewhere In The World’ is his song, “I can remember when I got into the top three I was starting to get a little nervous because there’s a chance that I’ll be singing somebody else’s song soon that’s supposed to be portrayed as my own.”
“I was scared because I’m not a big fan, generally speaking, of the typical Idol-style winner’s single and the X-Factor international. They’re a little bit generic and a little bit impersonal for my liking.”
He recalls, “I know how intimately involved I have to be with any song that I sing for it be a true story.”
“I remember reading the lyrics alone, without the melody or anything else, and they gave me a peace and a smile in my heart formed,” he grins, “I thought ‘Wow, a song that isn’t about my girlfriend or my problems or my club or my alcohol’. It’s about us, and I've certainly been that way inclined since I was a child.
“It was, again, another fateful feeling.”
The song does feel like it was tailored for Altiyan’s humanist, sensitive sensibilities.
He’s slightly hesitant to consider it, although he did reveal that there were some personal moments between he and the songwriter.
“I’d love to say that it was only an assumption, a feeling that I got,” he muses, “I felt that he wanted me to sing it. He was this ‘70s rocker guy and he had this earthy, heavenly vibe about him. I had this feeling he was hoping – quietly of course, because he’s supposed to stay completely detached… but how can you when you’ve created the song?”
“Obviously you have a vision behind it and he was hoping the Australian public would pick me to sing it,” Altiyan continues with a cheeky smile, “I think he was hoping that.”
