Those that were questioning whether an original album of Michael Jackson music would catch the public's fancy may have their answer. Based on one day of sales, Hits Daily Double is predicting that first week sales of the album will be in the 225 to 250,000 range.
While that's well below what might have been expected had this still been Jackson in his 80's heyday, the number looks good considering these are tracks based on unfinished recordings, released almost 1-1/2 years after the singer's death and performed by an artist who some still feel may have led a less than ideal private life.
The sales prediction would put Jackson in a three-way race for the top seller of the week against Susan Boyle's The Gift and Taylor Swift's Speak Now, the two breakout hits of the holiday season. Even the once high-flying R. Kelly is looking at a first week sales of just 150,000 for his album Love Letters.
