Online music streaming service Last.fm has compiled the most-“scrobbled” albums of 2010.
“Scrobbled” would be “played”. And the list only included albums, not singles, EPs or compilations. Plus, it actually only covers the timeframe from October 1, 2009 to Oct 31, 2010. But it’s still interesting.
Most interesting is that there’s a very even mix between chart pop and indie hits. Ke$ha’s Animal was top, with almost 16 million plays. Then Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More with 11.6 million plays. Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs came in third with 11.1 million plays.
Then it went: Gorillaz Plastic Beach at 4, Vampire Weekend’s Contra at 5, Eminem’s Recovery at 6, 30 Seconds To Mars’ This Is War at 7, Rihanna’s Rated R at 8, Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream at 9 and The National’s High Violet at number 10.
This gives away the demographics of Last.fm, obviously young and almost evenly split between net-savvy hipsters and pop-addicted tweens.
That’s the global list. The US list was slightly different, replacing Katy Perry, 30 Seconds To Mars and Rihanna with Beach House, Drake and Broken Bells.
