Australian Music Industry Directory founder Phil Tripp has sold his benchmark publication to Street Press Australia.
Tripp published the first Australian Music Industry Directory 22 years ago and published 45 editions. Recently he released an iPhone app of the directory.
The new owners Street Press Australia are the people behind Inpress, Drum Media and Time Off.
“We’ve had close to two decades of a trusted relationship with the Street Press Australia brands starting with Melbourne’s leading music title Inpress, then through its acquisition of Sydney’s top weekly Drum Media, Brisbane’s Time Off, the creation of Drum Perthand 3D WorldEast coast.” Tripp said in a statement. “Of five media companies who made offers to buy Australia’s only music business sourcebook we started in 1987, it was our long relationship with Craig and Leigh Treweek who we watched build the national network of music press that clinched the deal. We’ve talked about it for more than five years but when it came down to continuing the integrity and reputation of AMID’s 22 year leadership in the music business and our four major websites developed over 15 years, we couldn’t be happier with the acquisition.”
STA’s Craig Treweek added, “SPA has a long history of acquiring only top established brands with extended leading traditions and AMID fits perfectly into this ethos. SPA looks forward to continuing this history and expanding into new content and extended digital offerings to ensure AMID retains its place as Australia’s only relevant industry guide.”
The 45th edition of the Australian Music Industry Directory will be available from December 8, 2010.
