Australian singer and songwriting legend Brian Cadd is telling his life story in the new book ‘From This Side Of Things’.
Perth born but Melbourne raised Cadd has had one of the most successful careers in the Australian music industry spanning numerous group and solo recordings.
As a member of 60s band The Groop, Cadd had his first ever hit record with the first song he ever wrote ‘Woman You’re Breaking Me’. Next came Axiom (with Glenn Shorrock, later of Little River Band fame). Axiom’s ‘A Little Ray Of Sunshine’ has been one of the most played songs on Australian radio for the past four decades.
Cadd’s stories throughout the book are a delight to read as they offer a sneak peak into a life in the music biz. He talks about heading off one night to Geoff Cox parents house in the Melbourne suburb of Bentleigh and eating meringues with Coxy and Maurice Gibb from the Bee Gees.
His international success took had him living at various time in London and by the mid 70s West Hollywood where he wrote a song that became the b-side of the Pointer Sisters global hit ‘Fire’ and sold millions.
As a songwriter, Cadd wrote a song for Ringo Starr which is still unreleased. He also wrote the early John Farnham hit ‘Don’t You Know Its Magic’.
