I’ll tell you a story about the Pointer Sisters. Bruce Springsteen wrote their biggest hit ‘Fire’. It sold millions. Brian Cadd wrote the B-side ‘Love Is Like A Rolling Stone’. It became his retirement fund.
When a single or album is sold, the money is divided equally by the number of songs on the disc. It doesn’t matter if people are buying Adele ‘21’ just ‘Rolling In The Deep’. Every song on that record receives the same songwriting royalty.
The same goes with a single. There is generally an A-side and a B-Side. Brian Cadd made as much for the B-Side as Bruce Springsteen did for the A-side.
The Pointer Sisters were one of the hottest R&B acts of the 70s and 80s. The hits included ‘He’s So Shy’, ‘Slow Hand’, ‘Automatic’, ‘Jump’, ‘I’m So Excited’, ‘Neutron Dance’, ‘Dare Me’ and ‘Fairy Tale’. These ladies can deliver an all-hit show.
