Rupert Murdoch’s News Limited is going head to head with Ticketmaster and Ticketek. The company has set-up Foxtix, a new player for the live entertainment sector.
Three years ago, News Limited acquired indie-ticketing agency Moshtix that specialises in the pub and club scene. Foxtix is an aggressive play for a slice of the major touring market.
The Foxtix strategy will be to sell tickets cheaper than its competitors with new business.
The company will take years to build up its client base as ticketing agencies deal with venues with long-term contracts, not the promoters.
As News Corp owns social networking site MySpace, then MySpace is expected to play a crucial role as a platform for the ticket sales.
A quick search of the Foxtix site show very few events are currently on sale. David Campbell ‘Broadway and Beyond’ in Canberra, The Amazing Bodies Collection and GAFF AFF in October and Midnight At The Oasis and Lawn With The View in December seem to be the only events on sale.
