Creedence Clearwater Revival bass player Stu Cook has a bit of fun in a Rolling Stones cover band when he isn’t doing CCR.
“I play in a covers band in Austin now, a tribute band. All we do is Stones. We are called ‘Star Star’,” he tells Undercover News.
Stones fans who know the ‘Star Star’ song will also know that the lyric says something else. Mick sings ‘Starfucker’ in the song but because of censorship in the 70s, the cover had to use the fake song title. “If they are familiar, they get the joke,” Stu says of his cover bands name.
He says he has been listening to a lot of old Stones albums. “An album I have been listening to a lot lately is ‘Between The Buttons’,” he says. “‘Lets Spend The Night Together’, ‘Connection’, ‘Ruby Tuesday’, all of them. They are just not normal three chord songs, they stand the test of time. I’m not a latter day Stones fan. I’m not even a big ‘Exile On Main Street’ Stones fan. I liked ‘Aftermath’ and albums before that, I guess you could say the Brian Jones band”.
Cook is in Australia with Creedence founding member Doug Clifford performing for the first time down under as Creedence Clearwater Revival. The first show is tonight in Perth.
