Australian 70s pop star William Shakespeare has died at the age of 61.
Shakespeare was part of the Albert Records stable and had hits with the Vanda and Young written ‘Can’t Stop Myself From Loving You’ in 1974 and ‘My Little Angel’ in 1975.
Born John Stanley Cave, the career of William Shakespeare came to a grinding halt 1975 when he was charged with carnal knowledge after having sex with a 15-year old girl. Cave spent two years on probation.
In 1978 he began treatment for alcohol addiction and clinical depression.
In 1979, Cave attempted a comeback as started performing around Sydney as Billy Shake but the career never got back on track.
In 2001, he was homeless and living at the oval at Kogarah in Sydney.
William Shakespeare died from a heart attack. His funeral will be held in Sydney on Friday October 15, 2010.
