Australia's most well-loved band Powderfinger head off to record their sixth album in California.
Powderfinger are well-known for taking their time, considering the three year gap in between 'Odyssey Number Five' and 'Vulture Street'. Now, two and a half years later, Powderfinger reunite to lay down the tracks they've been demoing in late 2006.We can give the boys a break, since guitarist Darren Middleton has been busy with side project Drag, Ian Haig and JC worked with The Predators, and Barnard Fanning has established himself as a formidable solo performer with the multi-platinum, ARIA Award winning 'Tea & Sympathy'.
Middleton wrote on their dot com that they headed to California on January 8 to work with producer Rob Schnapf, who has twiddled knobs for Beck, Foo Fighters and Elliot Smith. He said, "We had decided from the outset that for this record we wanted to do things a little differently to before... not that we have suddenly discovered our Hungarian folk dance roots quite yet, but more from a location and producer perspective."
After shifting to a more pub rock feel on 'Vulture Street', who can tell what their sixth effort will sound like. We hope that they remember how intriguing 'Internationalist' was.
