While Axl Rose has gone on the record and said his long awaited album 'Chinese Democracy' will tentatively see the light of day on March 6, his record label, Universal Music doesn't think so.
Their official stance is that the album release date is "unconfirmed".The album has now been pushed back for eight years, with the first hints of it appearing on the 'End of Days' soundtrack in 1999, with the song 'Oh My God'.
Since then, front man Axl Rose has churned through various members including Josh Freese, one time Primus drummer Brain and guitar virtuoso Buckethead.
Various lineups of the band have played around the world showing off the occasional new song, although set lists have largely been made up of GnR classics.
The open letter to fans from Axl Rose, which is still up on gunsnroses.com, says it is the first time the band themselves have actually listed a date for the album's release.
The last Guns 'n' Roses album was 1993's 'The Spaghetti Incident'. Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin are the only two members from the first era of GnR.
